his woods fill up with snow.

little horse must think it queer 5

without a farmhouse near

the woods and frozen lake

darkest evening of the year.

He gives
his harness bells a shake

To ask
if there is some mistake. 10

The only
other sounds the sweep

Of easy
wind and downy flake.

The
woods are lovely, dark, and deep,

But I
have promises to keep,

And
miles to go before I sleep,

Falling Snow

See the pretty snowflakes
Falling from the sky
On the wall and housetops
Soft and thick they lie.

On the window ledges
On the branches bare
Now how fast they gather
Filling all the air.

Look into the garden
Where the grass was green
Covered by the snowflakes
Not a blade is seen.

Now the bare black bushes
All look soft and white
Every twig is laden
What a pretty sight!
